Future of Outsourcing and Offshoring in Australia
On Thursday, 2nd August more than 120 IITians and other executives gathered in Sydney to attend a panel discussion on 'The Future of Outsourcing and Offshoring in Australia'. There were two panels - the first being an Industry panel having executives from Westpac (Ross Mckenzie), Ernst & Young (David Fincher), IBM (Vijay Gopal, IITian), Mahindra Satyam (Venki Prathivadi, IITian), and Infosys (Samit Chandra, IITian). The second panel was an Academia and Government panel with Professors from UoW (Aditya Ghose), UTS (Eng Chew) and UWS (Oscar Hauptman) and Deputy Consul General of India in Sydney (Vivek Kumar, IITian). Special guests at the event included Philippines Consul (Commercial), and Indonesian Vice Consul General.
The question foremost on everyone's mind was: What is the right balance between lower prices and maintaining jobs in a globalised economy ?
Perhaps the most emotive question discussed that day was: What is the moral responsibility of the outsourcing vendors towards the redundant labour services?
